Please bear with me whilst I spark up a month of travel enquries, meddling, planning and brain-picking. I'll first deliver the news before I get to my sneaky bit. Pop-up stores are something that give me encouragement to trek out to a particular place to see something because I'm one of those sad and tragic people that don't like to feel that I've missed out even if it did turn out to be a bit crap.
Den, the extension of New York menswear boutique Odin is a concept space that showcases one particular designer for a period of time offering products that are limited, exclusive and all the rest of it. In the past they have featured Rag & Bone and Cheap Monday but starting from the beginning of February, Karen Walker will be taking over this space for three months. So why the reportage on a bit of news that most savvy New Yorkers will know anyway?
(The Cheap Monday takeover at Den...)
It gave me a sneaky (or not so sneaky as it turns out...) opportunity to also say that from the 1st to the 7th Feb, I will be tripping it to New York to a) take my boyf out of Europe for the very first time and b) to put it bluntly, shop like mad, explore like crazy and eat like a pig. The week coinciding with New York Fashion Week doesn't mean I'll be attending any shows (NYFW is something of a mystery to me and I'd be scared to even try and navigate...) but it probably does mean the city will be buzzing in a certain way. So, in not so many words, I guess I'm trying to shamefully ask for shop recommendations and the like. I'm pretty steady when it comes to the obvious places (Opening Ceremony, Seven New York, Screaming Mimi's etc....) but outside of that, and outside of Manhattan, I haven't a clue.
Anyhow, I AM genuinely interested to see Karen Walker's curated space if it resonates with her delightfully designed website. Apologies for the sneaky news and brain-picking all in one.
