When I talked about doing the 'avoiding Topshop' thing a while ago, of course I didn't mean this to apply to the many concession labels that are sold in the basement of the flagship Oxford Circus branch seeing as they probably make the pieces themselves or pay them more than 40p a day. Mark Stevens-Ellis loves buttons, he loves vintage ones, he puts them anywhere he pleases in the shape of 60's rounded collars, 80's shoulderpads and droopy bows. He gathers his buttons from button factories, flea markets and charity shops and makes them decorative as opposed to functional. The buttons, being not your everyday kind, makes each piece individual and (my favourite phrase that I drop so often)....'made with love'.
Ellis has created a ellisborough special collection for Topshop and it hit the Oxford Circus yesterday I believe. Seeing as I could never garner a collection of buttons as vast or varied as Mark, I shall succumb to the delectable combo that is some buttons and a simple t-shirt, making the resulting t-shirt of course...not so simple.
