Remember how my pink Miu Miu shoes got the most obvious of stares when walking around, it seems this Topshop Unique pink pinafore which I picked up a while back has the same effect though I can't decipher whether they are stares of admiration or derision. Even when I was buying the dress, I could already hear people sniggering about it with someone commenting 'Why would I want to weara bubblegum coloured tent?' Indeed, why WOULD I want to wear a bubblegum tent. On the catwalk, the tent like proportions of the dress aren't apparent which baffles me as it is a) a supposed ONE-SIZE garment, b) I'm in no way slighter than the model. But the back billows in the wind and the oversized pockets puff out proudly and yes, I love all of that.
So there I am walking around as the 'bubble gum tent' and the stares, gawps and baffled looks on people's faces say either two things:
'Oh my goodness, is she going to clown school?'
'Oh my goodness, that is cuteness.'
In my deluded state, I could very well think it's the latter. However in my pragmatic head, it probably is the first statement. I thought I was buying a fun summery dress that is subtle in design but it seems it's a little more complex than that. However, my conclusion is still the same initial gut instinct: 'All hail the bubble gum tent'.
