Remember how I said vintage in Hong Kong is something of a rarity and I attributed that to a lack of interest from fashion consumers. Well, one way of solving this is to combine vintage with something that might peak their interest. Like...a luxury shoe brand? Roger Vivier needs no introduction (I'm making it my long-term mission to own a pair of Vivier patent pilgrim flats....) and two weeks ago on the 13th April, a presentation of the Roger Vivier spring summer 2007 collection was held at the Vivier store in the Landmark in Hong Kong. The presentation was held jointly with Mies Vintage, a by-appointment-only vintage boutique owned by Konwae Lin, selling *gasp* top notch quality vintage from the likes of Dior, YSL, Givenchy, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Bill Blass to name but a few.
Let me remind you it's hard enough finding a generic vintage store selling faded t-shirts or generic dresses let alone a Rellik/Didier Ludot style vintage boutique so I'll be noting the address (38 G/F Aberdeen Street, Soho, Central) down in my to-go places next time I'm back in HK.
The presentation resulted in the unbeatable combo of contemporary accessories and vintage dresses. The pictures feature an Edwardian lawn dress, vintage Pucci, a Valentino LBD and lots of 60's gems. I must say the dresses have detracted my eyes from the shoes but I guess I'd rather have the dresses than the shoes. Let's hope this is the beginning of a beautiful vintage presence in Hong Kong.
