All this hullaballoo about Christopher Kane and to a lesser extent Marios Schwab's collections for Topshop and I ALMOST overlooked Steve J and Yoni P's collaboration with Topshop. Not a name you recognise? The grace of Topshop's support for young designers extends to the extremely up and coming as well as the more established (Peter Jensen, Jens Laugesen etc). Steve J and Yoni P are CSM and LCF graduates and Yoni Pai has already wowed the fashion crowd with her collection at the LCF Centenary MA show in January. Steve J and Yoni P recently showed their collaborative collection on the Off schedule at London Fashion Week last week which managed to balance Mongolian/Tibetan tribal costumes with modern contemporary wear (not an easy task...). Back to the Topshop collection though, I'm liking the way it's non-intrusive, yet interesting at the same time with the circular pleated pockets and bustles in skirts. Price points are also not on the Christopher Kane scale either, with the most expensive item at £70.
I can't really fault Topshop for giving REALLY young designers this kind of exposure at this sort of price and plus, I've been on the lookout for another jumpsuit that isn't made out of 70's disco polyester and I can see the blue one with white shades, a simple tank and the plimsolls I wore back in year 8 PE class.
