As much as I love shoes, I'm not one of those girls who worship at the altar of shoes. You know, the Carrie Bradshaw-wannabes who exclaim things like 'Oh those are to die for!' or 'I'd kill my husband for those.' (I have actually heard women say such things.....) when shoe shopping.
I love shoes but to me they're components of an outfit. It doesn't comfort me when I'm wearing a crap outfit but a cute pair of shoes like it does for some people.
I may have to revise my opinion a little though. My Miu Miu x Pop shoes I got a while back FINALLY got an airing. Despite being perfectly comfortable, somehow I haven't had the occasion to break out with hot pink shoes.
So I wore them to the Osman Yousefzada show today and since the show was late, I circled round the block a bit in Soho. I could feel eyes being glued to my feet. Women turning around and looking at them. I heard people talking about them as I walked by cafes and restaurants. Trust me when I say it wasn't the voices in my head. I really thought I was shooting up on crazy or something because i kept on looking around and there would be someone looking at my shoes and then looking up at me. I couldn't tell whether the reaction was positive or negative but I did get a lot of compliments when I was waiting around outside the show. This has categorically never happened to me in such an obvious way.
What is it about looking at people's shoes? What is it that illicits such reaction? I'm personally more interested in an ensemble as a whole as opposed to just looking at someone's feet. But it does seem the easiest compliment to throw around is 'Cute shoes!'. I know some of you will probably be quite bewildered as to why I'm not more passionate about shoes. As I said, shoes are great but they're not my life. However today, I got a taste of what other women feel when they have a on a great pair of shoes. I'm happy to go back for more of that feeling!
Speaking of which, here's a snap taken outside the Yousefzada show. I'm sure this girl experiences similar if not more violent reactions to her shoes too. I'm surprisingly attracted to the zebra and snakeskin together.
