Borrowing the Picture Postcard

>> I'm nicking the boyf and EJ's idea of a Picture Postcard and shoving this one randomly up on its own just because... the idea that Kieran here has executed (one of the ASOS Ltd 100 selected students that I snapped at the event on Thurs...) is STOOPIDLY simple.  Stitch/glue a 'spray of feathers' (it has to be a 'spray', make it bunched up or fanned out and it just wouldn't be half as nice...) on a polo shirt.  Turns out his shirt was by ASOS too thus keeping the DIY cost factor down as opposed to doing it on say a Fred Perry shirt....  Now... onto the feather selection...

GFW 2009: The Kids Have Rolled In

>> It's Education Day here at Graduate Fashion Week and many quizzical looking teen has walked past my stand thinking "Errr...what the fuck is this?  Where's the free goody bag?".  Oh well, nonetheless, I've been snapping some teens (between 14-19 yrs I believe...) around the stands... just because the first girl here spurred me to seek them out... didn't quite capture the amazingness of her pom pom headpiece and face embellishments...

Bubblelicious...

>> Come on, it had to be done.  This is a fond souvenir from my one day sprint to Vienna, at a party where I was nodding off but only briefly awoken by the bubbles they were handing out for us bloggers to blow... Bubble Bloggers as photographed by Katja of Glamcanyon include... Marie Therese of Flora's Box (who I kept calling Flora just because of the blog association...), Jessie and Julie of Les Mads, Mary of Stilinberlin and Kathrynsky...see some of you soon in Berlin I hope!

Streetstyle Go Go Go!

>> I discovered two fairly new London streetstyle blogs this week through going to the student shows... Vanessa Jackman snapped my pleated Bruno Pieters jacket at the CSM BA show and Holly Falconer of People in London captured my vintage denim frayed jacket newly arrived from The Urban Collection.  Had a peek at their archives and it's all top notch quality streetstyle - i.e. good photos and an eye combined... the streetstyle blogs list is just gets longer and longer...

Skeleton Spot

>>It's one thing cooing over an item that seems completely remote and far removed when it is priced at £475 on Net a Porter but it's quite another thing when you these Alexander McQueen skeleton print leggings in person, in action on a gal who *I think* works at McQueen (she was walking in that general direction...).  Suddenly the heart is palpitating significantly more and you get desperate beads of sweat running down your face thinking why the heck don't you have them?  Such is the shame of being the fashion sucker that I am...

It's All About Sarah and her Shop

10_19_08_Sarah_Colette18280 10_19_08_Sarah_Colette18291

It's got to be said that colette is more of a place to browse and get inspired than a place to do actual shopping, prohibitive prices aside.  I always whizz around the mannequins touching garments but not wanting to dig out the price tags lest I knock over something and embarrass myself in a horrible way.  I scootch around looking at whatever exhibition is going as there is inevitably some interesting collab/artist/photographer promo going on.  Then I sheepishly walk back downstairs and buy a book or a mag and that's about it.

So after a few months of observing their newly launched e-shop and the way it has been structured and updated, I can finally see myself handing over solid cash (or online debit card payment) for colette's creative director Sarah Lerfel's vision (check out the insightful interview with Sarah on Ponystep).  Sarah's choices for colette are reflected well on the new site, vastly updated from the standardised online giftshop site that it was before.  Pieces are added daily and now I'd venture to say that a good 90% of what is available in-store is now online which makes it as an e-store to contend with all the other big guns - Browns, Net-a-Porter, Matches etc.  The site also hosts special webstores for whatever collab/exclusives is going on in-store.  For instance, The Selby's special exhibition tie-in webshop or the Barbie limited product store

I'll of course still do my dumb routine of mindless wandering around just because it's one of those places that easily accomodates us non-Parisian penniless browsers.  However, the website will at least give me a fighting chance of buying into Sarah's astute choices.

New York Fashion Week A/W 09: Days 6-7

Time to tie things up and wrap it up as I've already started the London shows today (more about that later...).  Loose ends being some outfit posts which I feel I should complete just because I got in the hang of it and because Phil/Tommy have been kindly taking my pics all week long.  Sorry I can't smile properly guys.

Day 6 - This is me shrieking over Phil's amazing wallpaper which CAME WITH his rented apartment.  All I got was a horrid brown pleather couch...

Susieday6

Day 7 - This is me when I'm not properly fed... looking worse for wear...

Susieday7

Can't quite get over the awesome print of these PVC trousers that I borrowed from Fanny and the Cave... PVC floral print trousers from Miss Selfridge of all places!

IMG_2092

-My heart has been sinking lower and lower over the lost opportunities of shopping...especially when I spied an indoor garage sale in Chelsea that looked like this before having to scurry away to a show... in the words of Arnie, "I'll be back..."

IMG_0100

-I used to attempt to make something out of felt material just because it's so cheap.  What I should have done was ask Julian Louie instead to work some magic on the fabric as he used the material in abundance in his collection and with the addition of Swarovski elements to juxtapose with the mattness of the felt (I used to find their sponsorship of SO many designers a little frightening but then it turns out by and large I end up loving most of the Swarovski-sponsored collections anyway...).

-An obvious statement but Francisco Costa seemed to be able to make the colour black have so much depth with a plethora of fabric experimentations...

IMG_2065 IMG_2067

-I tweeted this already (I'm sorry my Twitter has collapsed... texting from my US mobile is apparently pricy?) but I was indeed shamelessly giddy and excited when I found out Leanne Marshall, season 5 Project Runway winner reads my blog.  A lot of WTF questions have been running through my head this week.  Her presentation was intimate but I was mainly gawking at the fact that most of the Project Runway contestants turned up.  I think I may have pointed and gasped over the presence of Jerell.  To the collection though - distinctly Leanimal is what I wrote in Leanne's guestbook except this purple dress with the mille feuille of cascading post-it notes makes me think her direction might be going even more sculptural... more petals, ruching, pleats and draping please...

IMG_2079 IMG_2080

-Everyone online blahing on about the launch of the first issue of Love magazine did not aid the fact that I couldn't buy it in New York yet.  I do now have a copy and will digest it soon enough.

-A friend of mine, Brandon is now settled in New York and so we met up for me to ooh and aah over his outfit of a superb vintage cape, a cardi worn upside down and the best bit; a pair of Issey Miyake Pleats Please navy trousers that he has slipped one leg over his head as a cowl and the other leg over the arm as an assymetric sleeve.  Sadly I don't have many trousers loose enough to do this but if I ever do get a pair of Henrik Vibskov print elasticated waist silk trews (very nearly nearly bought them when I was in Copenhagen), I shall be attempting this for sure...

IMG_2095 IMG_2097

-Rad Hourani stole my heart and I'm just waiting for a good plethora of backstage images to best show the radness of Rad in greater detail here... (I wonder if he gets tired of hearing that name being used in that way...)

Sweet Sweet Nao

Don't be too jealous of the previous post of forthcoming travels because I just know as soon as I leave The Big Smoke, something awesome/amazing/amusing happens in the capital.  Take this weekend for example.  Nao from Greenhouse PR is organising a rather sweet sample sale... not the usual argy bargy and wrestling with rails... a bit of a treasure treat that sounds like a cosy treat...

Naopr1
☆☆Treasure 1: SUSAN CIANCIOLO precious pieces from past archive collections, one of a kind
☆☆Treasure 2: Reem special items from past collections
☆☆Treasure 3: Personal items from stylists & editors wardrobes incl fabulous vintage pieces, boots, accessories etc!

Love this still from Cianciolo's film Butterfly Girl... a dreamy affair...

Naopr2
Naopr3

It's the Reem items that I have a hankering for as it's quite difficult to find this 'salvage' designer (she rescues antique lace and gives them beautiful homes...).  Here are some of the samples that will be available...

Reemsamps

On an unrelated note, Nao also co-ordinated this interview for Japanese mag Fudge with Leith Clark, editor of beloved Lula which hasn't come out with an issue for a while...?  The interview reminds me I need to do a bit more investigation as to what is going on...

I am W-O-W

I'll take this mini-down-time opportunity, whilst everyone is chomping on leftover mince pies and the last of the chocolate and biscuits, to tie up a few things.  I participated in Sportmax Code's W-O-W (Way Of Woman) project.  They have been profiling young female creatives; artists, photographers, illustrators, designers, musicians and err... bloggers and it's all been curated by Studio Blanco and every month, new interviews are being added to the site.  Projects accompanying brands is nothing new but at least this one is fairly engrossing and I've discovered a fair few creatives to check up, look up and research as well as ones that I'm aware of...

The stillness of Carlotta Manaigo's fashion editorial photography is stunning...

Woww1

Kate Gibb's silkscreen work is mesmerising...

Woww2

Elisabeth Arkhipoff's fashion editorial work is quite amazing...

Woww4

Loving Anika Lori's collage work...

Woww5

Lovely Kinga Burza...

I'm intrigued by Kathy Lo's site...

Woww7

Yay for Gang Gang Dance...

Woww8

Apologies - there's quite a few typos in the interview... but here's my WOW page as well as a round-up of the year's various outfits...

Wowm

I also love Plastic Choko's streestyle WOW photography she did in London for the project... damn I should have found a more imaginative way of holding the WOW sign up...
