Childsplay with a Skirt

Disskirt1

Do you ever feel like you want to deliberately recreate a childs-play scenario; the mother's heels, the lipstick, frou frou something that flops around your ickle body, the overall messiness of it all?  I hope she doesn't take offense but when the lovely Super Kawaii Mama very very kindly made me this full length skirt because she saw this pleated sheer material and thought sheer-lovin' me would love it (and she guessed quite rightly....), that's immediately what came to mind.  Not fiddling around and doing lots to the skirt but just because it's the got the sort of 'Disney' quality that would make you want to put it on immediately without any regard as to what it's actually being worn with and what consequences that has.  There's just so much fabric and with the several layers of two toned pleats, you just can't help but gather it up, swish it around and 'sashay' around in it.  Note: I rarely use the word 'sashay' which for some reason makes me think of drag queens doing dramatic walks.  In my current childs-play state, it's on with the very worn-out grey AA vest and the Acne white cut-out wedges.  Dressing up and down at the same time but most of all it enables me to look quite acceptable walking around with so much fabric swathing around the legs.

pretty layers of sheer pleats.... goes really well with your basic grey top.

the shoes look fantastic with the skirt!

that first photo is quite superb!

those pleats sure do create a little more drama!

Nice combo with the shoes.

I agree, the first photo is stunning!
That's a beatiful skirt, and I love the messy hair to go along with the outfit.

oh those shoes and that skirt!! fabulous!

Oooohhh! That is one gorgeous skirt! I love that first photo - it's perfect child's play!

I definitely see what you mean, it has a happy dress-up feel. It also looks perfect with those shoes. On a broader note, I think costumeishness gets a bad rap in fashion.

Pleats and sheer and ice cream colours oh my! Great skirt I'm sure you will find many ways to wear it. I only wish it was warm and or dry enough to wear something like that here at the moment!

i don´t like the shoes, but the skirt looks amazing!

Love the skirt, the whole vision of playing dress up was evoked perfectly. Only fly in the ointment? The shoes. Love the shoes--love it all, but not together. The vest is great w/the skirt, but the skirt is so much; think it would be ideal with some simple, stark, metalic thongs {maybe you'd call them flip-flops}. Love the messy hair too.

I love the layers and the length. I like it paired with the acne wedges!

That SKM knows her stuff. Beautiful skirt! K

Sashay, sashaaaay! Love the Acne shoes btw. I saw them on the website and did think, "ooo - hello".

wowwee.. SKM is so talented. Where on earth does she find the time to be blogger, a mama, a seamstress and all the while look so damn pretty every day?? Lets hope we can all be a glamourous and super as her when we have little ones. You carry this off well - and your hair is so pretty these days. xf

very gorgeous skirt indeed!! i often have those dressing up scenarios, but im just like a big kid anyway...

I agree with amma. I think the shoes with the skirt give a little too much to look at in this outfit and wearing simple flip flops instead would set the focus on that gorgeous skirt!

omg i love the skirt! the colours are really complementing your skin and the grey vest looks really nice with it. i have to agree on the shoe subject though, i think a plainer shoe would def look better and give the skirt more focus.x

you are stunning, and the skirt is gorgeous.

fantastic skirt!

Wow the skirt looks gorgeous with the shoes!

That first photo is simply gorgeous!

Methinks I will go back the second the store opens again to buy it, I've calmed down enough to think straight about it anyway. I love the first picture, it's very very pretty.

Also, I was looking through some old fashion mags and this kenzo ad reminded me of you when you experiment:

Haha. :)

That skirt is FANTASTIC

I love to dress up too

The skirt is amazing! Great gift. I really like the frothiness of it.

I really like the layering here. The shoes and top ground the outfit, keeping it from being to precious.

Yay Susie! So glad it fits you and that you love it. I knew you'd find the fun in it. That fabric just started to take on a life of its own as I was working on it, and I think you've found the right balance between girly and grounded. :)

that skirt would look fabulous once you start randomly looping and tucking it into a big, frothy cotton candy sort of shape, methinks :)

That skirt is fantastic! I especially like the combination with those shoes.

Love the pleats and the spring sorbet colours. It looks absolutely delicious!

you look awesome in that skirt and super kawaii mama is so sweet!! i love her blog too :)

i strangely do feel like playing dress-ups with my mums clothes and wshing it had the same look it did wen i was 4:)
that dress is lovely i am on the look out for a tutu that can b worn in public at the moment.

I love the first photo too actually.....! It's the colours and texture of the skirt that really shine there...
The shoes were, as people have pointed out, to act as a grounder.... a bit of an 'off' point.... but yes, simpler shoes would also work though I think flats would leave the skirt trailing a bit as it's quite long

that is simply the most beautiful skirt i have ever seen!

gorgeous colours and beautiful skirt - my favourite colour combination I want one!!

SB rocks out a cool Aussie Mama original - it's a win-win. ps the sexy bed hair, perfect with those shoes.

I doubt ill be able to pull off a skirt like that... But your white shoes are really cool.

awww i love the skirt and your outfit looks great with it!

super kawaii mama is too talented! the colours are beautiful, i want to reach out and touch the fabric.

Want! I'd wear that as a strapless dress secured with my black waist belt. I might even layer my black tank and black slip under it.

that skirt actually reminds me of one from my dress-up set from when I was little:)

Its a really beautiful combination. And i love the word 'sashay' for exactly those reasons!!hehe!
