Put me in a cage...
Thank you Angie for blessing my life with cages. No, that isn't an ironic feminist poetic statement. I thought I'd never mean that sincerely but I do. Why? From the frothy cage dress came a sturdier cage skirt which in reality is a whole lot easier to wear (though I wore the dress on Saturday with a positive response to boot... I think i was expecting jeers of 'You have holes in your dress!'...). Over the simple/casual things to the point of having no regard for whether the floral pattern on the cage skirt actually goes with whatever is going on underneath, seems to work the best but in the end I couldn't resist but wear it over a hot bit of ruffled pink. Depending on how high I pull it up on my waist, there's also different ways of working the structure of the cage. I'm now thinking Angie could make a pretty penny making these cage skirts as nobody post Acne SS08-collection has reproduced the concept. Probably in my own mental 'Style Bubble' (guff guff.... ho ho...), I made the skirts out to be bigger than they are in reality. Perhaps for me, they seemed like the easy route of double layering skirts hence my visions of mass-production...
Uniqlo stripy top, vintage lace bustier dress, Tabio fuschia socks, Topshop patent multi-strap shoes
Vintage New York mets t-shirt, vintage black matted sequin skirt (from Paris flea market), Pedro Garcia silver flats
United Colours of Benetton grey cardi, vintage black corset, Sophia Malig floral velour leggings, Bronx cut-out black ankle boots
Vintage Jordache denim jacket, vintage 80s bodycon dress, Sam Edelman boots
Alice Roi x Uniqlo white top, American Apparel cracked pvc leggings, Public Beware white sandals
Pink cheapie dress, Azona grey suede platforms

You managed to wear it so easily! I especially love the look with the white dress- it looks very natural.

It's amazing how you managed to make the cage skirt look normal. The first two looks are my favorite, especially the one with the t-shirt and sparkly skirt. I love a good fancy/not-fancy contrast outfit at all times.

^I love the cage skirt combined with the t-shirt too, but also the flowery trousers too..just lovely together. I wouldn't be surprised if these images provoke further requests for a similar idea.

Love the white top with leggings and cage ensemble! Works really well. Also loving the contrast of foral velour leggings with the floral cage. Nothing quite like clashing florals...

I've been reading your blog for a while, and I just wanted to say that you're truely inspiring. You have a wonderful sense of style.

This cage skirt is MUCH better than that other pink/blue cage dress.
Posted by: i9 | 16 June 2008 at 18:30
Susie! It looks so great. Loving the floral tights with floral cage combo, it's exactly how I imagined it looking on you, and I'm pleased to no end. Yay!

Love the skirt!! The sparkly skirt and t-shirt combo is my favourite.
Would Angie consider making more of these? I would definitely buy.

It looks great!

i seriously like it with the pink ruffled dress
Posted by: selina | 16 June 2008 at 18:47
Love them all, my fav is the last one though.

I like the way you wear it with the floral leggings the best. I love those leggings. Its one of those things that is so decadent its good. NOT its so bad its good.
Posted by: Megan | 16 June 2008 at 19:06
I really, really love this. I especially love the outfit with the cage sort of pouffed out!
Posted by: shesdressingup | 16 June 2008 at 19:17
Loving the third and fourth outfit. Am totally envious of your creativity. Breaking my lurker status to tell you that you're up on the Topshop website, where all the photos from the helmut newton photo machine are up.
Posted by: Rebecca | 16 June 2008 at 19:37
I love the floral on florals too. The whole outfit works really well.
Posted by: Rowena | 16 June 2008 at 19:44
Love all the outfits, a cage now seems like a wardrobe must-have (and I don't know exactly what they were, but Comme de Garcons AW08-09 had some black cagelike things on top of its skirts (though I don't know if they're separate 'cages', or part of the structure of the dress, and they'd be expensive). But you really work the floral cage!

i've saved the met tee + bustier/cardi/floral combo too for rainy days- very swayed by floral leggings :o . And the doll-like posing is super-cute!
Posted by: deexdeexdreamer | 16 June 2008 at 21:10
definitely great over the floral pants and the white top/black leggings combo.
Posted by: Giselle | 16 June 2008 at 21:35
I bet it would look great with the Fendi cage shoes (or would that be overkill?)
Posted by: Iheartfashion | 16 June 2008 at 21:46
You look so adorable in the picture where your fringe is all wonky in the second row. Love it! (The Cage is fabbytastic too - I think it words best over black i.e. the dress and the skirt, because it's most obvious then)

Lovely framed skirt! In special on the pictures 3, 5 and 6! And your flower pants are the best!
Posted by: ms-mojo-rising | 16 June 2008 at 22:31
Oh it's just perfect! It goes with everything!
Posted by: fritha louise | 16 June 2008 at 22:43
really lovely! Especially the with the floral leggings. Now please tell- cutout boots in 3rd set of pics and the ankle boots in the 4th set of pics?
Posted by: andrea | 16 June 2008 at 22:57
Looks sily to me! but I love the outfits sans the skirt/thingy
Posted by: Jayla | 16 June 2008 at 23:47
Inspirational! Also, I lovelovelove that sequin skirt, where did you get it? I've been looking for one exactly like that for ages!
Posted by: Miss R | 16 June 2008 at 23:52
Go Susie! Another completely original idea.
Posted by: enc | 17 June 2008 at 01:07
i especially love the one with the flowery pants! gosh looking at your pics, i can't help but want one too...
Posted by: raq | 17 June 2008 at 03:03
looks ridiculous
Posted by: K | 17 June 2008 at 04:34
Yep, the floral on floral is rockin! I like the first combp too.
You are not afraid to play, this is for sure. (Raq, she is experimenting and having fun! :) )
What is your favorite combination Susie?
Posted by: arline jernigana | 17 June 2008 at 05:18
I am sorry, I meant to say that to K, not Raq, about the ridiculous comment.
Posted by: arline jernigana | 17 June 2008 at 05:55
Hmm..seriously, most of the outfits are a little contrived.
Posted by: Annoymous | 17 June 2008 at 06:41
ah they turned out so well i feel like i need one tooooo! i think i might try to diy one with just zips haha
Posted by: jo | 17 June 2008 at 06:49
Go me...contrived AND ridiculous... me likey!
Posted by: susie_bubble | 17 June 2008 at 07:52
Oh... I'll put clothing credits on there in a bit... Arline: I think I like it with the floral pants the best just because...well... they're floral pants!
Posted by: susie_bubble | 17 June 2008 at 07:53
susie!!!i don't know if you have already seen this but you have to!
http://catwalkreport.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/ellus-fw0809-08.jpg
this label ELLUS' recent collection has the caged skirt....AND MORE CAGED STUFF.
i don't know if i am just slow...but...tell me, did you already see this?
Posted by: daniela | 17 June 2008 at 08:51
it has to be contrived because a caged skirt isn't exactly a pair of jeans is it?!
anyway, was just about to say that i really like them with the floral pants too. bravo!
Posted by: evie | 17 June 2008 at 08:53

so glad to have you on my google reader - you always exhibit oodles of style, especially with this set of outfits!
Posted by: Stephie | 17 June 2008 at 12:13
i really love it over the floral leggings and over the plain white top, where i like how you've played with the structure. i have to say, i'd definitely buy one!
Posted by: MHBass | 17 June 2008 at 18:04
The cage looks really great with all the minis! I don't know how you do it, but you really know how to pull it off!
Posted by: Likky | 17 June 2008 at 18:41
ahhh, glad to see this being modelled, saw your post a while ago and wondered what it would look like on.
Well done! :)
You pull it off great, especially love it with the black dress and denim jacket.

i LOVE it. and i don't know how but the bruises on your legs are somehow completely charming.
Posted by: SwanDiamondRose | 17 June 2008 at 21:20
Go susie! You have once again got me in a state of outfit envy..
I was just looking back at your style when your blog was all young and I think your style has matured alot.
Posted by: a dreamer | 18 June 2008 at 09:04
Oh love it so much with the floral pants. Sort of like matching to the point of recklessness, plus there is no such thing as too much floral in my opinion. Also with the pink it looks so fab. I think that pink dress is amazing concidering the price, I even tried to replicate it with neon green fabric, untill I ran out!! (turns out not many places really stock neon green satiny, chiffon) :(.

You are making a strong argument for cage skirts. Now I want to try one.
