Gone Bamboo
I spoke of one 'Blink and you'll miss' incident earlier. Here's another that I NEARLY missed but caught at the last moment. Was it me who was living under a shell and was I the only one who completely missed out on the fact that United Bamboo did a wee collection for Uniqlo? The fact that I'm usually fairly clued up on the Uniqlo designer collaboration thing means I'm sort of doubly ticked off. Upon searching in Google, all that seems to come up are a plethora of Japanese sites talking up the collaboration.
Even weirder, that I discovered the collaboration when I logged onto Uniqlo.co.uk and bought what I thought was just a cute t-shirt dress from the UT tee project and then when it arrived, finding a 'United Bamboo for Uniqlo' tag on it. People queued and fought hard for the Alexander Wang for Uniqlo stuff yet this one slipped completely under the radar? Hmm.... curiouser and curiouser...
Still, buying something by accident is better than missing out on it completely so yay for a bargainous (£12.95) cute printed t-shirt dress with ruched bust detailing to the wardrobe...

You always look fabulous :)
I'm loving the black & white!

No, you are not the only one who missed out on this! I had no idea this was happening until just now, when you told me! Thanks Susie!

That sort of thing happens to me all the time, and not just with fashion. Sometimes developments with movies or music I'm particularly obsessed with will go right over my head. Missing that dress would have been a crime though.

i missed that one, too? but have no explanation for that, either. i always liked united bamboo. anyway, that shirt- dress is super nice!

I really like the dress you chose. Also, the ersatz Peter Pan collars are sweet. Nice contrast of black-and-white.

I like the funky patterns - they bring the monotone to life!

The collection looks great! I especially love the green patterned piece. I love that awesome boldly-graphic outfit of yours; glasses are the perfect fit.
I'm jealous--there's no Uniqlo anywhere close to me.

i didn't know about this collaboration either until i stumbled across a few of the dresses on oxford st a month or two ago. i think they had your dress in blue too? i did think about buying one but purse strings were so tight at the time i decided to pass. it looks great anyway.

Posted by: Anna | 18 June 2008 at 12:31
hahaha yea. as hard as i tried i didnt manage to get any alexander wang in my closet. i really like the prints and the faux collars and all that on this collab. i got the dress in teal and grey, but i have yet to wear it out! i'm looking for teal tights to go w it! excuse me for being matchy matchy haha

wow that dress is pretty :)

I'd never heard of united bamboo but I've already got the black peter pan collar one and a blue version of your white one.
I've also got this peach and black one http://www.uniqlo.co.uk/catalogue/women/ut-t-shirt/93076-pink-designer-collaboration-t-shirt which is by someone called Ylang Ylang.
Don't know who they are either!
Uniqlo really ought to say who the designer is rather than just saying "designer collaboration" ...
Posted by: meemalee | 18 June 2008 at 13:17
... and because they're in the UT range you can buy two for £20!
I have the black one you posted in the top right hand corner and it only cost me £10 because I bought it with another UT top.

Uniqlo collaborations make me so happy...but not being anywhere near one makes me very, very sad.
How there isn't a Uniqlo in Vancouver I don't know.

Holy moly. I live in the US and didn't see these, and they're basically my fantasy dresses. They're probably not in stores anymore, huh. Anyone know where else I can find them? Email me if you do. I will give you a puppy or something.

ahem. guess my email didn't get posted. seriously, if anyone knows where to get one of these dresses or is selling one (esp. the peter pan collar ones), please email me: idaslide@yahoo.com.

I also would love to have one of these blk/white dresses....if anyone knows anything please email me...marlenehanlin@gmail.com

Ok, I'm a moron. I have the same one in blue, didn't even notice it was United Bamboo. Temporary fashion blindness, perhaps?
It keeps riding up over my boobs though. I keep meaning to sew the ruching in place.

argh! this was something i was eyeing if i were to be able to find a uniqlo nearby anytime soon. but of course, that wasn't to be. sigh!

I found it strange how this collab seemed to have less publicity than others...I kept on seeing them at Uniqlo here in Japan and finally caved in weeks after I realized I had yet to see it on the streets. The prints remind me of Keith Haring, love the funkiness and the prim peter pan collar mix.
