In the past few seasons, I'm sure everyone has noticed that there's been a very noticeable and deliberate 'boyfriend' branding in womenswear. Apparently, we all need the perfect 'boyfriend blazer, the 'boyfriend trousers', 'the boyfriend sweater' or the 'boyfriend oversized shirt'. Be it a genuine taste for masculine looks or just wanting to feel relaxed in looser clothes, a bit of the 'boyf's' looser cutting is what a lot of women try to acquire or achieve. Penny pincher that I am though, if I'm busy buying clothes for femmes i.e. my ruffles, my florals and my frou frou, why not just nick some of the REAL boyf's clothes to get that loose fit. As the pile of 'boyf staying over at my pad' clothes grows and grows, more often than not I get tempted to just nick his clothes, especially since he's more of a selective/picky clothes buyer and ends up getting some really nice things. Furthermore even if the boyf is bigger than me, he prefers things quite fitted so the bagginess level is just about right for me.
Note, these are just the things I found lying around in my apartment. Haven't even been let loose with his wardrobe back at his place... I'm thinking he's either going to be bemused or annoyed...
Unconditional t-shirt, Sisley grey pinstripe trousers, COS black studded belt, People's Market tuxedo jacket
Omar Kashoura black deconstructed cardigan, COS black jeans, COS grey cardigan worn as skirt
J Lindeberg black trenchcoat, COS black and white checked shirt worn as skirt // Vintage checked hoodie, APC jeans, COS black studded belt

Absolutely LOVE IT! loved it all. That has definately really inspired me!

I absolutely love these looks. I adore what you've done with the pinstripe trousers. I've been thinking about wearing some of my boyfriends clothes for a while, but every time I try he gets a little annoyed. He says that his friends will end up thinking that he is wearing my clothes! He's away this weekend though so I might go take another look through his wardrobe.

It would be nice if I had a boyfriend to borrow from, but alas, I have only myself, and my closet.

You look so cute! Tried some of my boyf's blazers on but it looked ridiculous... Thanks for your amazing blog!

Wos Susie, the first pair of pants looks gorgeous on you!
Posted by: alicepleasance | 03 May 2008 at 13:12

It's been awhile since I've seen you wear pants on here, but they look very very nice paired with that slightly loose fitted tee. My bf could could a couple shopping tips from your bf!
Posted by: Jasmin | 03 May 2008 at 13:44
It suits you very well, you could wear trousers more often. I especially like the first ones, perfect!

Posted by: denise | 03 May 2008 at 15:05
I saw the pics before I read what you wrote, and loved the outfits... but now that I know you styled them from your bf clothes, I LOVE it even more! Amazing!
Posted by: pearl | 03 May 2008 at 15:13
I love this look on you, it is pretty different as I normally think of you in dresses more than trousers and 'manly' looks.
It looks very modern. You look fabulous!
Not that you don't normally!

I think I already said it at least 10 times by now but.... I LOVE YOU IN TROUSERS/JEANS!! Gorgeous!

Susie you need to wear trousers more often! That first pair of your boyfriend's fits like a dream!
Posted by: Sabrina | 03 May 2008 at 17:12
I love what you do wth the skirts and other frippery but you've never looked better. Effortless uber-chic!

His clothes look great on you!
Posted by: C | 03 May 2008 at 18:14
These are all great, sleek looks! It might be a good idea to wear the shirt as a skirt in public though..mostly because the looser buttons might fall off or the sleeves unravel :O But you look great anyways! It's nice to see you in a more androgynous look.
Posted by: Soleil Noir | 03 May 2008 at 18:24
^oops, I meant NOT wear the shirt as a skirt in public :X
Posted by: Soleil Noir | 03 May 2008 at 18:25
best in a while!!! I love it fab fab genderbend
Posted by: rheal | 03 May 2008 at 19:00
thats hilarious and genius. i love it. you have to tell us what your boyfriend says after he sees the pics, (if he reads the blog..?)
i'm really loving it. =]

Love the first outfit.

love the first look so much!

The last look is fabulous, those jeans look like they were meant for you not the bf! The pinstripe trews in the first 2 pics are amazing too, love the belt you put with them.
Posted by: Louiza | 03 May 2008 at 22:04
Susie I think these are my favorite outfits of yours I've seen to date. That boy of yours has impeccable taste.
Posted by: | 04 May 2008 at 01:04
haha, my gentleman caller is a lot smaller than me, negating the idea of charmingly oversized menswear looks, but the first pants are just great on you. also, I've wanted to ask, are those *the* balenciagas or look-alikes? either way, they look excellent in that outfit!
Posted by: fawn lust | 04 May 2008 at 01:18
Those COS grey trousers, studded belt, oversized cardigan, cardigan worn as skirt (beautiful effect), and J.Lindeberg trench are really great pieces.

I have tried on my boyfriend's clothes before to his amusement, but alas, he is too big for me...I practically swam in his pants. I do steal his warmer tops from time to time but any blazer/jacket makes me look rather butch, the shoulders are far too strong. I pine for all these looks, I love mens stylings, I think they make women look infinitly sexy.
Your boyfriend has amazing taste, hold on to him!
Posted by: Lucy-Jane | 04 May 2008 at 04:39
ahh i wish I had a boyfriend now to steal clothes from! these are some of my favorite looks from you ever susie.
the trousers look like they're made for you & the boyfriend cardigan is the perfect amount of v-neck sultriness.
xoxo

I don't have a boyfriend, but you're spot-on about guy's clothes just being a whole lot more relaxed in fit. I always feel constricted by some items of clothing that are cut for women, so it's good to see I'm not the only one who likes boy clothes as an alternative.
You really do look fantastic, too- the oversized things are brilliant on you. What's the hoodie made of, though? (it's just tough to tuck most sweatshirts inside jeans, so it must be lightweight, am I right?)
Posted by: Drusilla | 04 May 2008 at 05:46
Those gray pinstripes are one of your best looks ever.
Posted by: WendyB | 04 May 2008 at 05:55
this is fantastic. its a hard look to master. so many times women go completely overkill with menswear but this is appropriately chic, maintaing necessary elements of feminine silhouettes while embracing classic lines associated with "boyfriend" dressing.

Good lord.... the reactiion to Susie in trews has been great.... just to reinforce though, it's not that I anhor trousers per se...I'm just too lazy to try them on.... I have a rather peculiar shape that requires a lot of research into trousering.... but thankfully, those Sisley trews will be mine since they are my boyfs' reject trews...
Soleil Noir: Actually, I do this with cardis all the time and as long as you tie them securely, they're pretty much ok.
Lulu: Thanks! I love your blog too...
Fawn Lust: Sexy tight menswear perhaps?
Dru: Yes, the shirt is really lightweight but also because the APC jeans are so big for me, there's room to tuck it all in...
Yes, those are the Sam Edelman 'Balenciaga' knock off boots... shame on me but I love em' anyway...
The 2nd pair of shoes are by ASOS and the black ones in the last outfit are Topshop.
Posted by: susie_bubble | 04 May 2008 at 09:05
You look really great in these looks! I often buy clothes from mens department, I really like the looser fit..
Posted by: Sidsel | 04 May 2008 at 09:06
first look is my favourite. and you do look fantastic in trousers, though i agree skirts and dresses are much easier to buy.
i borrow my boyfriends clothes a bit as he is skinny and wears things tight. he's also freakishly tall, so everything's still ridiculously oversized.
kind of reassuring though as i remember an ex boyfriend being able to borrow my jeans when i was 19. and they fitted looser on him. worrying!
Posted by: poppy lee | 04 May 2008 at 09:11
this looks great! i love wearing masculine clothes, makes me look soft butch-ish haha.
love the shoes from the first outfit
Posted by: clover | 04 May 2008 at 10:10
love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! ahhh. words cannot express how much i love this
Posted by: Fashion Tidbits | 04 May 2008 at 10:13
Susie, I think through your bf's clothes you've found your way of doing the less is more / minimalism that you claim always escapes you! And it rocks. :)
Posted by: sopchan | 04 May 2008 at 11:46
Lovely post, and some great looks there. Hope he's not too annoyed as I think you may have to keep a few of these. I've just done a post on my favorite Man of Style, credited with popularizing trousers the first time around, too.
Posted by: super kawaii mama | 04 May 2008 at 11:56
this works too with brother borrowing :D
Posted by: Miss at la Playa | 04 May 2008 at 13:52

it's nice to borrow, i do it all the time.. but we live together, so its bound to happen!

Like everyone else, I think the first pair of pants look amazing on you!
Posted by: yulanda | 04 May 2008 at 17:33
incredible! i bet you couldn't find over sized, looser clothes that looked so great if you tried, they look perfect!
Posted by: selina | 04 May 2008 at 19:49
The top two looks are my favorites, of all these superb looks. I love the way you did the trousers rolled up, with the boots.
