Mr Card and his Card Tricks
I'm not usually one to rave about the latest 'IT' people, probably because I'm usually terribly slow with getting on board with who's 'IT', who's not and all the usual party shennanigans and the fact that I'm a bit of an old biddy. There has been a buzz about Gary Card and his set designs and the fact he's been in a Paul Smith campaign has raised his profile a little bit more. The fact is, at least this 'IT' person has some super skills. Here he is in the new issue of AnOther Man, photographed by William Selden and styled by Nicolas Formichetti, modelling amongst sets that he has created himself. I love that the styling and the set design has come together so seamlessly. A ramshackle sixth-form type art studio with an array of quirky cardigans pulled from a wide range of designers. Who knew Missoni, CdG and Paul Smith could look so in sync with each other? The eclecticism of the styling on Mr Card is making me want to rummage all my stripes, pastels and brights to recreate similar modes of attire, replacing the trousers with a solid coloured skirt perhaps but keeping the bow ties, cardis and brogues. As for the sets, may Mr Card keep on at his craft...
Fantastic, and surely the model is based on David Hockney.
Must say I'm not up to scratch on this card bloke, but I agree that the sets are eye candy.
and that has nothing to do with the fact I'm actually sitting in my art studio at college, I promise!
Infact, the whole appearance of this issue is especially visually rewarding. The fonts and format, phew... theres a fiver in my purse somewhere, I just know it.

i might well be stating the obvious (haven't yet seen the issue)...but there seems to be some major Hockney channeling going on here - not a bad thing at all either as DH was one pretty dapper dresser, perhaps the last un-ironic art dandy.

I'm usually not too inspired by menswear, but already I'm imagining how this could translate... the blazer in the last photograph reminds me of a pair of pants my mother bought me when I was younger. I hated it with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, but she insisted that it was "trendy." She was right, of course. I wish I had those pants now.

I agree with mgw, DH is the 'last un-ironic art dandy' and this shoot is both respectful and irreverent homage - just the way he likes it.

hm... i love his clothes and the sets, but his hair looks way too fake for me,and his glasses look like accessories rather than, well, glasses. With slight more understated hair and glasses I think it would have looked more eclectic, rather than 'i am a crazy hipster going through a "eccentric professor" phase right now!'

Stevie's right, there's a distinct David Hockney look to the whole thing, which is a good look to have :) And hey, if I met a boy dressed like that I'd very definitely take an interested second look..

I love his style...Im not to faund of blondes but even though u can tell hes not a natural the roots with the bleach really fits him.
