When I say I like a soundtrack with my clothes, people will raise their eyebrows a bit. By soundtrack, I mean a natural one, the onamatapaeic noises that some clothes will have. The sharp rustle of raw silk, the 'shhhh' sound of layers of taffeta and even the slight sqeak of patent. Don't ask me why but I like it when fabrics and textures want to be heard and have something to say. So when Christopher Kane sent down a paillette (yes I had to check the spelling twice!) laden collection yesterday, and having watched the video online, I could just about hear the sound those dresses, sweaters and trousers, heaving with paillettes would make as anyone wearing them walked down a street. A soft tinkle, like a xylophone that is toned down with less of a note range. Though the collection itself had less of a 'WTF' factor and really when Kane said 'Big Bird' as a pre-collection hint, you didn't think something like this would come about, I'm still intrigued by the sheer amount of pailletes used, making a noise quite literally as opposed to all-out visual impact. As a self confssed sequin lover, I guess it's natural that the next progression would be the big sister paillette, all the better to shimmy in and make 'shhh' noises...
On a separate note, the sheer is not all lost for next season and I'm convinced that heavy on the top and something long and sheer at the bottom (albeit in warmer climate) is something that I'd like to try.

I was pleasantly suprised by Christophers efforts this time as i've been underwhelmed by all but his graduate collection, but this is divine and the video really shows how intricate and thought-out each design is. Looove is in the air <3

pretty clothes! I really like the short one in the top right. The discs work so well for making the dresses seem more sculptural. Some of the models look like they could be aincent statues. i'd like to imagine they have a nice gentle 'clink-clack' like plastic bangles. :-P

I love the look of paillettes, but after buying a champagne colored Prada paillette tank dress a few seasons ago, and then losing several of the (irreplaceable) disks on the dress's first outing, I'm a little wary of investing in such delicate pieces again. Is damage an issue for you, or am I just particularly clumsy?

I'm laughing at your multiple spell checks Susie. I have a hard time with this word as well.
My mother had a 1960s gown with champagne paillettes on the bodice that hung in her closet in the early 80s. don't ask me what possessed me to pluck about 15 of them off. I loved those little disks so much I wanted to hold them.
