Ruffled by some feathers and too much thought

I know it's silly to complain about having too many ideas but when you're as indecisive a person as me, then you're faced with a mess of ideas all running into each other with no particular sense or order and getting more and more convoluted and complex by the minute.  It started off with the feathers, the blue lace and the millinery material AKA the Blue Vanves Morning which should have been simple enough.

Then I had the idea of backing all this frippery up with some textured grey which happily coincided with a Yves Saint Laurent LO-ONG velvet skirt I picked up for a tenner in Beyond Retro (first time I've ever scored anything designer in there...).  I'm a staunch believer in not touching something that is quite perfect in its original state such as the YSL skirt.  However, there is just masses and masses of oozing velvet on a long long length that is a little too Gwendolyn-esque for me.  So it shall be chopped and manipulated, and in my head, I'm imagining all manners of puffs, pleats and drapes.

In addition, I also added an old similarly blue-hued Topshop silk miniskirt that I could also rip up to augment this elaborate skirt concoction.  I want something that could be happily worn with a grey jersey t-shirt and a pair of beaten up flats so that it's ALL about the skirt and nothing else.  Roughly speaking, I have a draped/pleated skater skirt in mind with a structured waist/pelmut made with the millinery material with touches of lace and blue silk peeking from underneath and the blue feathers featuring on the front.

Then images of Nina Ricci's AW07-8 campaign floated into my head with delicate gossamer like feathers so I'm also now contemplating the addition of a touch more delicate plummage from Carnmeal Cottage

Hopefully I'm able to restrain myself so that the skirt doesn't become a fright of a bird corpse.  So it's materials all at the ready, a head full of ideas and a bit of TLC and time devoted to nights of handstitching and careful consideration. (I'm treating this like my GCSE final piece where I dabbed a bit of paint on it every night perfecting and re-perfecting....).

I love the Nina Ricci campaign!!! Wasn't the défilé so beautiful?

Archive Notes

  • As I post so frequently, the archive is organised by week but this blog has been up and running since March 2006 so if you want to read from the ye olde beginning, just keep going back through the weeks or alternatively, go through the archives via Category.

  • It's back to ol' YouTube vids then... I'm obsessed with this track by Miike Snow... a little disturbed that these are the same guys who came up with Britney's Toxic...
