Easy as ABC Vintage

Fashionologie introduced me to The Urban Collection a while back and from the name you might be mistaken into thinking it's some sort of too-cool-for-school streetwear site.  It is too-cool-for-school but not in the way you think as this is vintage that is well-selected enough to fool you into thinking you're buying brand new ready to wear.

'Bang on the trend' is what the pieces are selected for and it also confirms that buying vintage doesn't necessarily mean you have to look like you're wearing a certain 'period'.

Discovering The Urban Collection's new fall/winter additions also coincides with my current unwillingness to traipse around the shops due to lack of time and energy (if you see me napping on the tube with my head bobbing up and down, that's me trying to catch a few winks).  So shrewd is the selection by Marjorie aka "Dree", the owner and stylist at The Urban Collection, that items are quickly snapped up. These are the items that I lust after but have alas, gone to lucky owners....

The drapings and details on this cape make me forget that I just bought a cape from A.P.C. mere weeks ago as I want it so bad... // The jumpsuit that looks subtly interesting without the 80's trash/flash feel that invariably goes with vintage 'onesies'...

Some more things that are mocking me because I was waaay too slow.

Fear not though as there are other treasures to be bought (except that by the time I've blogged about it, faff around a bit, I'll probably lose out again...).  I'm loving how this model in this houndstooth dress and grey saloon suit looks like those models that I used to see in my mother's old magazines (she kept piles of her 70's fash mags under the sofa...perfect flicking/tearing up fodder for a toddler).

I do feel it is time to take the plunge into a skirt suit with Miu Miu's take on it capturing my heart. However seeing as that's a bit of a wild dream, altered vintage will suffice. I like the casual feel of the saloon suit and the grey is also dying to be worn with block coloured separates and accessories.

Picking out pieces that correlate with the latest catwalk trend round-ups basically makes my rummage through the rails a whole lot easier (I'm afraid my usual beloved rummage is proving too much of an exertion these days...).  It's all there... the vibrant colours (jumper and blazer) shiny black (the top) and body-con (Nicole Miller vintage dress).

I'm also quite fixed on having some lace-ups that have Doc Marten stylings which are femme-ed up a bit. Like these Justin 80's lace-up boots in black and burgandy.

The accessories pack a punch too with patent, molten metallics and the cinch belt picked up.  I apologise if my enthusiasm for the vintage rail rummage appears to have waned but when you're falling asleep mid-convo with people, The Urban Collection does do what I'd be out doing anyway, much better and not at unreasonable prices.

This is kind of a random coincidence, but those burgundy boots REALLY remind me of a pair of boots I just won on eBay, which the seller says is Laredo.

Vintage shoppping is so much fun! I first went a few years ago (before it really hit celebrity status) and couldn't imagine what I could find- designer pieces that other people threw out. It's a great way to make a look your own!
