Happy Icelandic Trekking

Reading Sruli Recht's website is a little like trying to get to know that elusive, intimidating and slightly too-clever guy that you fancied at uni (ok, could just be my experience).  You're intrigued, want to find out more and like me could be a little baffled.  Anyhow, suffice to say, because of my lack of understanding and general stupidity, I'll just cut to the chase.  Sruli Recht, if you care to go through his archived work collaborates, creates in a variety of ways and media.  'Making ugly things beautiful.' 'Making things without time.'  His work is the 'result of process, not intention.'  gives some insight into the way Recht works but in no way summarises what he does because it encompasses so many things.

Bare bare facts, Sruli Recht studied fashion at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and over the past 8 years has devoted himself to film costumes, made-to-measure projects, pattern cutting for Alexander McQueen and fashion consultancy for brands in Iceland and Australia.  After a whole lot of mini projects, Sruli Recht now presents us with his shoes for 2008.

They were designed and made in collaborationw ith Brendan Dwyer in Melbourne and use materials like minke dork, goat, kangaroo and buffalo.  Seeing as I can't wax lyrical about them in a clever/poetic way, I'll just say that it's a bit of a crying shame that these shoes are mostly intended for hommes as I definitely would have usage for them.  Each shoe comes with preferred wearing purposes.  For example 'silent stalking of beauty' or 'rapid duelling with advanced laser based weaponry'.'  Clearly these are two things that I'm very much into so cripes!  I need a pair of these shoes now, especially the Dorks or 'With a Silvertongue' which turn into boots when you pull the tongue up.

Or maybe they aren't just intended for hommes and I'm not reading beneath the lines.  Gosh.... and to think some people think fashion is an air-headed subject.....

Grey Nurse // Dorks

Slipping Away // Czech Bootleg

The Messenger Veins // With a Silvertongue

those just might be the best men's shoes i have ever seen. jesus christ i love them.

i LOVE those last grey ones...they should come in ladies...

These are the best shoes i've ever seen. Beautiful! Beautiful! May this designer be rich and successful, please!

do you still update your links?

I seem to drool at mens collections more often that I do at womens these days.

Perhaps because guys can now dress well without donning a suit. And wear shoes that don't make them look like their fathers or little brothers while they're at it.

I might have fallen in love a little with "Czech Bootleg". Is that subtle texturing/embroidery on "Slipping Away"? Will I become a crazy cat lady living in her fabulous men's shoes? The answer is, Maybe. I hope so. And my relatives will fight for these shoes after I pass away, because these designs have the look of passing the test of time.

I want the Messenger Veins!!! So badly! Is there anywhere these can be bought at the moment?

as a friend of Sruli (and an icelander who's been reading your blog for a long time) I can safely say that your experience with reading his website is very accurate. Even I get baffled. I'm pretty sure he created at least one type of shoe for women in this latest shoe line, and I think (well, hope) that there are more on the way. My favorite thing he ever made are his capes: http://srulirecht.com/index.php?s=75&open=5,97,75,137,135,181,134&lefttext=75&frontpic=9

I believe these shoes won't be on sale until 2008 as they are going to be presented at shows in October....

Julia: Ok, it's not just me then...nonetheless, I'm intrigued all the same! I love most of his projects too...

oh wow those shoes are gorgeous and i wouldn't mind them for myself!! i surfed onto your blog and i totally love it!! i hope you don't mind me linking you. take care!

Gorgeous... simply gorgeous.

They might be men's shoes, but they seem rather slim-cut... couldn't one find a way to sneak a pair on?

brilliant.

As Sruli's younger sister I look up to him very much. He inspires me alot and gives me great ideas. I may be far away but I still think of him every day!

Sruli I LOVE your shoe brand and I hope you become VERY RICH AND SUCCESSFULL!

love your younger sister Gabby Recht.

Every once in a while creative genius will pass you by.
even rarer, you may even hatch eye contact.
and if you are graced with luck you will know them, or know about them.

Sruli Recht is one of these people, a man trapped in creative perpetuum.

Sruli Recht has made clothing articles for me.

Does the term “adventure travel” mean the traveler must become an Indiana Jones and endure steaming jungles, baking deserts or stormy seas? Does it mean risking life and limb in war zones or regions that have been prone to terrorist attack? Does it mean crawling on your belly in the claustrophobic depths of a cave, or dangling from a rope at a cliff-face hundreds of feet above a torrential river?

Привет, ищу где в инете можно слить русскую Call of Duty 4? Везде , просят денег, а денег нет. Подскажите пожалуйста. dsflkjsdlkjf04-02-2009
