Steve J & Yoni P - remember their names

All this hullaballoo about Christopher Kane and to a lesser extent Marios Schwab's collections for Topshop and I ALMOST overlooked Steve J and Yoni P's collaboration with Topshop.  Not a name you recognise?  The grace of Topshop's support for young designers extends to the extremely up and coming as well as the more established (Peter Jensen, Jens Laugesen etc).  Steve J and Yoni P are CSM and LCF graduates and Yoni Pai has already wowed the fashion crowd with her collection at the LCF Centenary MA show in January.  Steve J and Yoni P recently showed their collaborative collection on the Off schedule at London Fashion Week last week which managed to balance Mongolian/Tibetan tribal costumes with modern contemporary wear (not an easy task...).  Back to the Topshop collection though, I'm liking the way it's non-intrusive, yet interesting at the same time with the circular pleated pockets and bustles in skirts.  Price points are also not on the Christopher Kane scale either, with the most expensive item at £70.

I can't really fault Topshop for giving REALLY young designers this kind of exposure at this sort of price and plus, I've been on the lookout for another jumpsuit that isn't made out of 70's disco polyester and I can see the blue one with white shades, a simple tank and the plimsolls I wore back in year 8 PE class.

i really like the first dress - very psycho house on the prairie. topshop never usually does it for me, but i do like their designer collections as they usually cater for body types over and above the usual topshop no boobs type. not being in london whenever they release these designer collections i miss out tho which is really very frustrating - maybe i should have stayed for uni instead of escaping to the fens!
:-D xxxc

wow the grey thingy is really beautiful and versatile. And the jumpsuit is really cool. When exactly do you think this will be out in the store?

all fabulous! I love the bustle on the skirt. No Topshop in the U.S *cries*

love the first dress. would def wear it for summer or anytime else! topshop should really start to expand or at least ship to continental europe.. i mean.. what is this??

Susie, that stuff is all so you! Especially the last dress.

Hey!

First time I come here, loved your blog XD! Can I link it?

Just created my own fashion blog, could you visit? www.stuffaboutfashion.blogspot.com

intereesting all right...though I don't know how I would personally carry off the hip pockets, I have more than I need in that area. But the jumpsuit is the kind of thing I could have used the night before last..I got locked into my office after closing time and needed to hop out over a really high set of railings onto the street! And tight jeans weren't the best for it.

I have seen these dresses in the fleshes and thought they were hideous, even the cool trendy peeps' walked past laughing at them in Topshop. Definetly not my cup of tea and I love unusual pieces!

i love that last dress! i've always wanted weird pockets!

Hey-- great post in Fashion156. do you have any pictures of the flowers at marc by marc?

dats really interesting!
I got exactly the same pattern of the skirt ,exept its in blue.

Is there a TOPSHOP in Paris?

Have a look at the London Fashion Week channel on http://www.t5m.com/london-fashion-week , with some great fashion coverage. We have just finished filming at London Fashion Week and have some inspiring exclusive videos on our site. We have footage of all the catwalk shows and backstage interviews with the designers. The runway shows and interviews with the celebrities are on there too.

Archive Notes

  • As I post so frequently, the archive is organised by week but this blog has been up and running since March 2006 so if you want to read from the ye olde beginning, just keep going back through the weeks or alternatively, go through the archives via Category.

  • It's back to ol' YouTube vids then... I'm obsessed with this track by Miike Snow... a little disturbed that these are the same guys who came up with Britney's Toxic...
