I woke up an hour ago, groggy and bleary eyed but unable to sleep anymore and logged onto TFS, to find - tada! The much-awaited, much-anticipated (if not in excitement then in bemusement) S/S Miu Miu ad campaign starring Lindsay Lohan and shot by Mert & Marcus - yes, an image has finally surfaced! Just to be clear, I absolutely love the concept of the ad, the styling, the ambiance and as Fashionologie has pointed out, the Guy Bourdin-esque qualities of the shot are commendable rather than derivatative. However, I'm not sure if it's the post sleep stupor that I'm in or the amount of Panedol I'm on, but that's a whole lot of Photoshopping going on there. If it's not Photoshop, then it's the image programme called the Incredible Long Limb Stretcher and Waist Cincher v2.0. All very well making a few 'aspirational' nip tucks, but then why not cast a model who actually has the Incredibly Long Limbs and Small Waist. This is only the first to emerge from the ad set but with this particular image, I feel Lindsay Lohan's face is really quite disposable....
....if Miu Miu can be a bit liberal with the body stretching, then I can be a bit liberal with the face as well....
....how about Karen Elson....
....or Lily Cole......
....or Lily Donaldson......
....or Jessica Stam.......
.....or anyone else really?
(Please excuse crude PS skills!)

Hahaha- I just posted about this too. Excellent deviations :)

i love it: even the fact that it's lindsay...but maybe it''s because i can't tell its lindsay. i think i took five second-looks, and i still don't believe it is her.
Posted by: christina | 13 January 2007 at 06:58
That doesn't look a thing like Lindsay Lohan! Maybe in a glossy magazine or something she would be more recognisable but if someone asked me to guess who it was, I would have guessed wrong.

she looks like mariacarla boscono
Posted by: chicqual | 13 January 2007 at 10:25
i can't even believe that's lilo. oh, the wonders of photoshop.
Posted by: Haute Girl | 13 January 2007 at 15:10
yeah, really! what is the point of casting Lindsay if you can't even tell it's her and plus they have to photoshop the hell out of it to make it even look less like her?!?
Posted by: Katie | 13 January 2007 at 15:53
It doesn't even look like her, and I think since it doesn't: what was the point of doing a celebrity?! Like you pointed out, why not hire a model who actually looks like that in real life, sans the Photoshophappiness crap. I mean, I could totally see Karen Elson in this shoot; her looks are so striking and she has that natural flaming red hair. Gee, I just don't get it. Not that I don't like the concept, but man, its just like WHY?!?!?!
I think maybe this points out quite well that modelling is best left to the lucky few who have the natural look for modelling. Even with the modern technology that we have to crop, stretch and retouch the heck out of people, WHY?!
Thanks for another insightful, witty post. :)

I do really like this ad though, you know. I totally can't tell it's Lindsey. And that's probably a good thing. But yeah, the whole look of the ad is really interesting. I like the colours they used.

hilarious photo-manipulation, susie! lindsay lohan certainly is easily replaced in this image without losing the concept or execution- i would, for instance, have preferred the karen elson version.

do you happen to have an invitation for tfs by any chance?
Posted by: rosa | 13 January 2007 at 19:41
yeah id just like to also add that this in no way looks like lindsay lohan... i personally would like to believe that it is all a huge conspiracy. and its not actually her but some up and coming model... or any model for that matter... but i suppose i'll wait for the other images to come out before i start a definite conspiracy theory..
Posted by: Katlin | 13 January 2007 at 19:42
until you said it was lohan, i had no idea. bizarre. it just shows that any of us can be pretty and famous if we have the right computer program....
Posted by: agent86 | 13 January 2007 at 20:07

Hey guys, as much as I would love to invite the whole world to the brilliant TFS forums - I have used up all of my invites! So until I get some more, there's not a lot I can do. I know it's a pain that I link to TFS quite often and some of you aren't members but I hope you get on there somehow - I just can't help you out right now!

oh this is too funny! thanks for posting this.
Posted by: shopdiary | 13 January 2007 at 21:12
yeah, its not even her face. really shouldnt count as ll.
Posted by: Eli | 13 January 2007 at 21:32
I think the whole point was to generate buzz around the campaign, maybe in the end we find out its not even Lindsay Lohan?
Posted by: A | 13 January 2007 at 21:47
I think it’s smart on Miu Miu’s part to have made Lindsay unrecognizable. They get the buzz attached to having a publicity magnet like Lindsay on the ad but not the bad press that she usually gets. Since it doesn’t look like her at all, it looks generic enough not to turn off those who detest Lindsay.
Posted by: shopdiary | 13 January 2007 at 22:15
Wow. . . until you pointed it out, I didn't see how fake it looked. Looking at it in that light, not only does she barely look like herself, she barely looks human. Ick.
Posted by: La Principessa | 13 January 2007 at 22:47
Not her face, arms, leg, or waist. But if it looks good, it looks good.
Posted by: elle | 14 January 2007 at 04:08
i have to agree. while i don't like the use of her in high fashion ads, but if they were going to use her, then use her. she could just as easily been any other model, karen or lily...
so basically, what was miu miu's point in using her in the 1st place?
Posted by: candid cool | 14 January 2007 at 17:41
wow...i would've never guessed that that was lindsay lohan in the miu miu ad- it looks nothing like her!!!
Posted by: maddy | 14 January 2007 at 21:45
When you first mentioned the model was Lindsay Lohan I had to do a double take because I did not recognize her (and still don't really). Then I saw your own Photoshopped pieces and had a great snicker at all of them. :)
Posted by: Sam | 15 January 2007 at 04:06
Could even be Anne Hathaway with a wig :-D
Posted by: Raffy | 15 January 2007 at 18:06
oh SHUT up.. it does look like her.. all models are so ugly nowadays.. really only some are pretty.. I mean gemma ward and jessica stam are the UGLIEST piece of SHIT on earth.. and the lsit goes frigging on
