Men that Shine and Crystal Balls

I think by now, if you haven't had the word 'metallics' drummed into your head by at least fifteen fashion magazines (or even newspapers), then I salute you for managing to ignore mainstream fashion media (I'm not one of them...). For the most part though, something metallic will probably be making its way into our wardrobes this summer. However, I believe that guys should not be missing out on all the shiny fun. I have noticed flashes of silver foil pieces snaking their way around London on some guys pairing the shiny stuff with what else, but skinny trews and a pair of spanking new Swear shoes (THE signature guy shoe of London me thinks....). I say, make like this guy here in Fashion 156's 'The Clash' editorial and wear the full-on shiny jackets. Maybe sans drawn on stars if you're not into theatrics and with a plain t-shirt and some sleek black skinny trousers to just streamline everything. Just don't let me sit behind the a guy wearing the Unconditional jacket (I loved that jacket on the runway....) or my magpie eyes may have to follow him home.

Marianne, aka The Girl Who The Press Like to Use As a Posterchild for the Size 0 debate, also makes an appearance in this week's The Clash editorial. On Make Me A Supermodel, I remember judges used to always say how unexpressive and dull she was. Sure doesn't look unexpressive here.....

Whilst we're on Fashion156 talk, this week's issue is the Trends Issue where I impart some rather UN-sagely, random-AS, completely pulled out of the air something somthing about trends now and the future. Looking into the fashion crystal ball is hard work. Mucho respect to those people they call 'coolhunters' because it's no mean feat being THAT intuitive - no wonder they get the best job title in the world - 'coolhunter....', 'I'm cool-hunting', 'I'm hunting for cool...' (ok, must stop the voices inside my head).

I love it

Hi to all. Thanks for mention Susie. We have had several "comments" over @ fashion156 about the guy in our shoot wearing make-up...it seems to have really freaked some people out..... The whole shoot was inspired by the Blitz Kids of the 80's and the club kids of London today.....They are all really pushing the look and kind of sketching art work on their faces etc. Ok perhaps not a look for the office! but hey boys want to have fun too!! be great to hear what you guyz think?
thank you for your interest.
Guy @ fashion156.com

Just to add to Guy's comment, I don't often write about menswear (supply and demand I guess...only about 10% of you lot are guys!) so I'd love to see some male input on the whole shiny metallics/stars on faces thang!

stunning shots...

I think the first and last pictures are absolutely gorgeous!!! The middle picture doesn't quite do it for me, his facial expression is rather frightening.

oh, forgot to mention I think guys look hot with make-up on. But I don't think to many workplaces would approve...I assume most would not.

I think the makeup looks really cool. And hey, they were right about you, Susie :) Your tendency to cool is almost freaky at times, but in a good way.

The make up is lovely :) oh my god though, I'm still thinking of Swear as giant inflatable looking platform shoes, not everyday wear really...

I love how Ziggy Stardust it is, definitely a fetching look. Wish it'd catch on!

i looove shiny things : )

off topic i was looking at your stlediary and i saw you had the most amazing cream tulip skirt with pockets. ive been looking for one everywhere!! do you have any idea where to get one??? please im like dying i need that skirt!

I'm a guy, but not shiny one. I prefer subtle shiny pieces of clothing or accessoires on not-shiny outfits (like some old-lady pearls or broche, a girls belt, the contradiction of an icey watch on a vintage outfit).

Hi Susie and all contributing to the blog, I am delighted to read your piece, we at swear have been doing silver and gold shoes for at least 10 years, first with the initial incarnation of swear (yeah, when we were younger, on vast supplies of Julian Cope's favourite exciter... and Hedi Slimane or Cassete playa were nowhere to be seen...) so we made them huge, metalic colours and patents were a speciality!
With the second incarnation of swear shoes (2001) we have chosen to maintain the anti-formal shoe, never having made a swear soled with leather, but using the most incredible leathers and prints... we love metalics, patents and even though our wholesale customers wont go there because they are too afraid of keeping stocks and being messed about by merchandisers on huge commissions we dont give a f**k and present them every season!
For unlimited supply (unless styles are sold out) just go to our store in carnaby street and make sure you treat my wife well.

Oh, and who mentions Susie and Guy will get a 20% off!

hows that?

thanks

Cheers to a great LFW!

Jorge, you're too kind! Thanks for not giving the f*** and keep making those shiny shiny shoes...

Lia: That skirt was bought in Hong Kong at a place called Azona.... I haven't really seen anything similar here though....

Hi...love this blog, only just discovered it today at work!
I wonder if anyone can help. I live in Leicester, so cannot get to London for these matallic things.
I really really REALLY want a pair of silver pointed toe shoes i've seen a friend wearing. He got them from Kurt Geiger but they aren't on the website and they don't seem to know what i'm talking about.
If anyone can help i'd love them forever, I won't rest until i've got them!!!!!!
Thanks guys xxx
