Brain Food that is Pretty
I have a handful of books that are on my guilty 're-reading until book spine is all bent and messed up' list. To celebrate Penguin Classics Dimaond Anniversary, six designers were asked to design a cover of their favourite Penguin Classic. Of which three are on the aforementioned 'fail-safe' reading list but alas already, the limited run of 1000 has already sold out for all of them. That's quite possibly a good thing since right now splurging £100 on a perspex case-clad limited edition book is really not high on the necessity list.
Manolo Blahnik chose Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Paul Smith chose Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence
Video artist Sam-Taylor Wood chose Tender is the NIght by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I love the idea of fashion designers putting their stamp on all sorts of everyday objects, and books never entered into my imagination! This is a unique and really fun idea, too bad I couldn't get my hands on one. Love the photo on the Fitzgerald cover: simple and striking.

I just read Tender Is The Night yesterday....I am in love with it. I like that cover too especially.

I'm sorry, but the cover for Madame Bovary looks like a cheesy chic lit cover, and to make it worse, instead of using the opportunity to make an interesting piece of art, Blahnik chose to make a cheap ad for shoes.
