The roster of designers working for UNIQLO just get better and better. The Designers Invitation Project that has spawned two posts and a ton of enthusiasm from myself just doesn't want to let up as they have a slew of names lined up for spring 2007. It's also an even balance between East and West as designers Alice Roi (her designs for a dress to the left), Philip Lim, Lutz & Patmos and Alexandre Plokhov of menswear label Cloak participate from the States. Meanwhile we get introduced to a host of Japanese labels such as Halb, GVGV, Kino and Satoru Tanaka. Men and women will benefit and all stock will be available at stores worldwide. Seems too good to be true really. The eight designers will be slowly introduced from February onwards with a new designer hitting stores each month.
The thing which has really got me psyched is that UNIQLO have really got the high-low design collaboration right by choosing designers whose aesthetic can be easily translated to the lower end of the market. The affinity also works because UNIQLO in itself pride itself on lower prices without sacrifice of quality. So all in all, my cheap clothing fix for spring 2007 is pretty much set for next year and I don't have to feel guilty about it falling apart after two washes.
