For some reason, a few of you have been requesting some DIY-activity from me despite my usual botched up ideas that come to life in the most hap-hazard manner. Well, I'm brimming with ideas to share with you, but alas since my move, I've been sans sewing machine and relatively out of time too. However I have managed to get my act together and got on with the next part of unravelling my charity shop 'too-small-in-the-waist-too-big-in-the-bust' gold dress. I took the waist ruching part, one of the fanciest parts of the dress and paired it with this really old shiny black trench I found at the back of the laundry cupboard at home that no one laid claim to. It's a very odd material indeed, resembling something between black bin-liner and sheeny silk.
So on went the gold ruched waist along with the trench belt sewed on the inside to provide an attachment (the gold waist is still way too teensy for it to fasten up completely). Then I had this random idea to sew a tube at the bottom of the trench and stuff it with cotton wadding to make a kind of roll and make the trench/dress into a sort of 80's space cadet outfit. With some rolled up sleeves and the cape structure that was already on the coat, I have now got myself a mass of black and gold shinyness to wear as a trick or treating outfit on Tuesday or to just make people laugh whilst picking up groceries. Ok, I jest too much. It will actually make a useful Madame Jo Jo's fallback outfit.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!- like a sexy space cadet and jane fonda all at once
was the bubble hem there earlier??

Why aren't you a famous designer already?

Holy crap, that's only the kind of thing I'd envision in a dream, the kind you have after you've eaten too much ice cream and can never quite remember. Very cool, very space-cadet & so fun.

this look is really great! I believe you've done an immaculate job with "re-fashioning" both of these oddball items. Actually, I'm really quite in love with the material of the black trench coat. It's very yummy, like spicy black licorice.
And, I agree, you really should look into starting your own design company!

the dress reminds me a mixture between YSL fall 2006 and hussein chalayan fall 2006

I love it-------very fun. I recently saw Margiela Jackets with padded lapels and ''buttons.'' I went home and stuffed a black silk shirt collar and cuffs ----It's my own personal neck rest. Less extreme than a Hussein Chalayan design. Very wearable. Keep doing the recons and posting them! Thanks!

This is tres magnifique! While you may have been hesitant to pursue what you really love, fashion, I think you have so much talent and potential! Your work reminds me of stuff i see in Elle and Vogue- no lie! So... if you ever have a whim to really pursue fashion I am certain you will have success, especially with all the fame you have already earned throughout the blogging community.
